Defective Products

A defect is a potentially dangerous problem area in an automobile due to manufacturer’s error or cost cutting. The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is responsible for investigating possible automotive design and manufacturing defects. Once the NHTSA receives a complaint, it will investigate it and determine whether there is a defect in a certain automobile model. If the manufacturer is found by the NHTSA to be responsible for a harmful defect, a recall is issued. The defect must be eliminated from future models. Additionally, the manufacturer must issue warnings to owners of older models containing the defect.
